Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal will only be considered title contenders if they can beat the big teams away from home.

The Gunners are currently sitting top of the Premier League after five games ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, who are in second, and Arsene Wenger’s men are also currently on a seven game winning streak.

Many pundits wrote Arsenal off after their opening day home defeat to Aston Villa, but since then, they have looked like a new side, especially with the addition of Mesut Ozil, but despite their improvement in form, Carragher still believes they have to show more if they want to be champions come next May.

“They’re playing very well at the moment, they’re top of the league and that’s exactly where you want to be.

“The Aston Villa result seems a long time ago now and they’ve come on leaps and bounds since then. But there are a lot of big games to come and they will need to prove themselves in them.

“Once they start mixing it with the big teams and beating them away from home – that’s when I think we’ll see if Arsenal have a real chance of winning the title.”
