Arsenal are closing in on signing Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld, according to reports.
The Belgium international is a versatile defender, who can be used as a right-back and also as a centre-back, and it will give Arsene Wenger the depth he wants at the back, with his side currently having only two recognised centre-backs at the club.
Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker are the only natural centre-backs at the Emirates Stadium, after Thomas Vermaelen joined FC Barcelona earlier this Summer.
New signing Calum Chambers can be used as a centre-back if needed, but Wenger is keen to add another one to his squad.
Atletico have already told the 25-year-old that he can leave the club this Summer, after he spent most of last season on the bench, and it’s being reported that a move to Arsenal is on the cards.
