Arsenal have reportedly held formal talks with Manchester City and Aston Villa regarding Matija Nastasic and Ron Vlaar.

Arsene Wenger is desperately searching for a centre-back due to Thomas Vermaelen leaving the club earlier in the Summer for FC Barcelona, leaving the club with just two recognised centre-backs.

Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker are the only two central defenders currently at the club, and Wenger is keen to add to that by signing another figure.

Nastasic has already been told by City that he can leave the club in order to play regular first-team football, and Arsenal have been monitoring his situation for the past few weeks.

As for Vlaar, he had a superb World Cup with Netherlands, and has been linked with Manchester United since then due to Louis Van Gaal, but it’s been reported this morning that Arsenal have opened talks with Villa.

Both Nastasic and Vlaar are wanted by numerous clubs, but it’s believed Arsenal are feeling confident they can land at least one of them.
