Arsene Wenger wants to add defensive midfield reinforcements

According to the Express, Arsenal have targeted Southampton’s Victor Wanyama as their number one target for the up and coming January transfer window.

The Kenya international was the subject of interest for several big name clubs in the summer, but he could move to the Emirates Stadium for around ÂŁ15 million in the New Year.

The Gunners need to add depth to the holding midfield department, as Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla are all sidelined through injury.

‘we will see what is there’

Wanyama is seen as the ideal player to fill this void and to help Arsenal push for the Premier League title. The club’s manager, Arsene Wenger, admitted he ‘rates’ the 24-year old in a recent press conference.

“I rate the player, but we are not on the case, we will see what is there. We have a whole December to go first,” said Wenger.

However, should Arsenal fail in their pursuit of Wanyama, it is rumoured they will launch a bid for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot; the 20-year old is allegedly valued at £10 million.
