Arsenal have rejected a formal offer of around £6million for their captain Thomas Vermaelen.

The Belgium international, who has spent most of the season on Arsenal’s bench due to Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, has grown frustrated with the lack of first-team football at the Emirates Stadium and is believed to be wanting out of the club this Summer.

However, The Gunners do not want to lose him on the cheap and are requesting at least £12m for him, with Manchester United and Napoli interested.

According to reports, United have made a £6m bid, but that was quickly rejected by Arsene Wenger and co.

With just one year left on his current deal at Arsenal, the North London club have to make a decision on whether they cash in on him this Summer, or face losing him on a free this time next year, and with a move to Old Trafford on his mind, Wenger may decide to sell him, if the price is right.
