According to reports in Spain, Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola was keen on signing Ozil for Barcelona whilst in charge of the Catalan club, but the 25-year-old instead put pen to paper with rivals Real Madrid.

It is claimed that Guardiola made an enquiry for the former Real Madrid man in the summer, however Arsenal rejected any possibility of parting with the player because the German champion’s offer was below the ÂŁ42.4 million fee they paid to sign the player from Real Madrid last summer.

Though reports are suggesting that the offer would have allowed Arsenal to re-sign Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona, but Wenger’s loyalty to Ozil caused any potential deal to collapse.

Ozil has been subject to heavy criticism from Arsenal fans and the media for a hefty amount of underwhelming performances in recent months, only netting one goal and providing his team-mates with just one assist whilst Fabregas has created seven goals as well scoring one for himself as well.
