Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to offer centre-back Per Mertesacker a contract extension, which will see him remain at the club for a further three years.

The German international initially struggled with life in England as he couldn’t keep up with the pace of the game, but after spending two seasons in the country, he has developed into one of Wenger’s key men.

The 29-year-old developed an unbeatable partnership with Laurent Koscielny at the end of last season and has continued his impressive form this campaign.

At the end of the current season, Mertesacker will only have one-year left on his contract, so Wenger is adamant on getting a new deal done for the German, which could see him remain at the Emirates for a further three-years.
