It was a great return to action for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the Premier League match with Crystal Palace on Sunday as the Arsenal star bagged both goals in a 2-0 win.

With Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere both out injured and Mathieu Flamini suspended, the 20-year-old was required to play as a central midfielder.

With Oxlade-Chamberlain usually playing on the wing for the Gunners this was a new role for the England international, but one that the player has made clear he wants to utilise more often and the midfield ace was delighted with the opportunity.

“To play in midfield was nice,” the youngster told the club’s website.

“It’s nice the boss has faith in me there. It’s nice playing in midfield with players like we have, when we have got a lot of the ball.

“It’s always an amazing feeling to score a goal, especially at a superb stadium like the Emirates. I’m glad to give something back to the fans.

“It’s something that I want to add to my game more so it was nice to get two today.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain showed a keen eye for goal in the defeat of the Eagles and alongside Mikel Arteta looked solid in the middle of the park.

The great performance was made even more impressive by the fact that this was the Englishman’s first start since the opening day defeat to Aston Villa – in which he suffered a knee injury.

However, having Oxlade-Chamberlain in such good form is only good news for Arsene Wenger and the national team.
