The Gunners have already wrapped up deals for Alexis Sanchez, David Ospina, Calum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy, but Wenger is still seeking a new midfielder as he looks to build on last year’s Premier League fourth-place finish.
Khedira has been tipped to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer after Carlo Ancelotti signed a replacement in Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos, and with the German playmaker set to partner Luka Modric in a 4-2-3-1 formation, Khedira’s days appear to be numbered.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho reportedly called his former player convincing him to move to Stamford Bridge, but it is believed that Khedira favours a switch to the Emirates if he ends up leaving Spain.
Despite Wenger insisting that his side were never in for Khedira, Spanish paper Sport claims that the Gunners are still monitoring his situation, and are ready to make a bid near the end of the transfer window.
The Champions League holders are said to be looking for £25million as they aim to claw back some cash after a mega-money move for Monaco’s James Rodriguez, but with Angel Di Maria set to leave for around £55million to Manchester United, the La Liga giants could let Khedira part for just £20million.
