The Gunners are still hopeful of signing PSG’s Edison Cavani, according to reports

Fichajes claims Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen on making a move for the former Napoli striker in January.

Despite previous attempts being rebuffed in the summer, Arsenal are planning to make another move for the Paris Saint-Germain striker during the next transfer window.

Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud are the only recognized strikers at the club and Wenger is keen to bolster his attacking options.

Arsenal will face plenty of competition to sign the South American attacker who is being tracked by a number of Europe’s elite clubs, including Manchester City and Chelsea and Barcelona.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was another player who Wenger was interested in signing over the summer but the France international insisted he was going nowhere.

United defender nearly joined Arsenal

England international Chris Smalling admits he made the right decision to join Manchester United, despite Arsenal showing an interest.

“There was interest from Arsenal but I’m happy to be where I am now,” he said. “This year I’ve definitely got more consistency, it’s something I needed to add to my game.”

Smalling played for non-league club Maidstone United before joining Fulham. He became a Manchester United player in 2010, signing for around ÂŁ7million.

United slipped down to 3rd in the Premier League after suffering a comprehensive 3-0 defeat against Arsenal.

Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring inside six minutes, before Mesut Ozil doubled the Gunners lead just 74 seconds later. Sanchez added a second just before the 20 minute mark at the Emirates Stadium.
