Midfielder Jack Wilshere is set to undergo talks with Arsenal regarding a formal contract next week.
The England international is set to go out of contract at the end of this season, and the only way he can stay at the club is if he agrees to a cut in his basic salary.
Wilshere has, for long, suffered from injuries and has been out of the team for long, but his recent form suggests none of the same. He has been in a rich vein lately, and against Chelsea, scored his first Premier League goal in two and a half years.
Arsenal is planning to incentivize their wages: with more bonuses in line based on success and playing time. While Wilshere has not been a regular for a while, his recent form could make him earn more than the £90,000-a-week base salary if he plays regularly.
Manager Arsene Wenger has also put his weight behind Wilshere, saying that he expects Wilshere to stay at the club.
