Joao Moutinho has been told he can leave AS Monaco

AS Monaco have informed midfielder Joao Moutinho he is free to leave the club as the club continue to make drastic changes due to financial reasons.

The club signed a trio of stars back in 2013, with James Rodriguez, Radamel Falcao and Moutinho all signing, but they are now cost-cutting due to financial restraints and two of those mentioned stars have already left.

Rodriguez is now in Spain with Real Madrid, whilst Falcao has been on loan in England, with Manchester United last season and Chelsea this.

However, Moutinho is the one that has stayed put, until now.

Moutinho Told To Leave

According to reports in France, the Portuguese international has been told he can leave the club this summer, alerting Arsenal who have been long-term admirers of the 28-year-old.

Arsenal are in the market for a new midfielder, and Moutinho could be an ideal signing for Arsene Wenger, especially with Mathieu Flamini all-but set to leave the club.

Moutinho is currently earning ÂŁ110k-a-week at Monaco, and due to the Ligue 1 side trying to cut down costs, he has been told to find a new club.

With his big contract, the midfielder may have to accept a pay-cut in order to finalise a transfer.
