Arsenal have reportedly joined the £20m race to sign England and Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is known to be a long admirer of Welbeck and the London side has asked to be informed on any updates regarding his future.

Last week it was reported that Tottenham had made the signing of Danny Welbeck their top priority following his lack of opportunities as a central striker for United this season.

Wenger is hoping to sign a top striker this summer due to the lack of consistent form from Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck is being considered as a serious option. And even after the sacking of David Moyes, Welbeck’s future remains very mch uncertain.

Sources close to the England striker say he may find regular football in his favoured position, hard to come by despite the arrival of a new manager.

Wayne Rooney signed a new contract giving him £300,000 a week and Robin van Persie will definitely be part of Louis van Gaal’s plans should he take over at United following the world cup.

Manchester United are planning a massive re-bolstering of their defence and mifield, so a Welbeck transfer could help fund the Red Devils’ transfer ambitions.

The 23 year-old forward has just two years left on his current contract and he could be tempted with a move to either Arsenal or Everton who are both reportedly interested as they push for a Champions League spot.
