Arsenal are set to do battle with Italian side Napoli in the race for Southampton’s holding-midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
The Frenchman, who just missed out on Didier Deschamps’ World Cup 23-man squad, has been closely monitored by Arsene Wenger since The Saints’ arrival in the Premier League, and after yet another fine season for the 24-year-old, a formal bid is expected to be made this Summer.
However, after also impressing Rafael Benitez, Schneiderlin is now being watched by Napoli as they look set for a busy Summer strengthening their team
With strong reports linking Mauricio Pochettino with a swift exit from St Marys, it’s believed a whole host of first-team players will follow him out of the door, with Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw and Schneiderling being the main-three.
Wenger is keen to sign the 24-year-old as a long-term replacement for veteran Mikel Arteta, who is set to leave the club next year once his contract expires.
