Arsenal to make £40million bid for Real Madrid striker?

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has set his sights on Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema and may even make a formal £40million bid for the Frenchman later this week.

The Gunners boss is desperate to land a top-class striker for his side, but so far, he has failed to capture anyone of note, with Yaya Sanogo being the only newcomer at the Emirates Stadium so far this summer.

The likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez and Stevan Jovetic have all been linked with a move to Wenger’s side, but two out of the four chose different clubs and the other two look set to remain at their current teams.

With his current striker Olivier Giroud even admitting that the side need more strikers, Wenger is ready to spend big in order to sign a strike partner for the Frenchman and he is now tempted to bring in Giroud’s national team-mate Benzema from Real Madrid.

Speaking after he watched his side thrash Fenerbache 3-0 in Turkey, Wenger confirmed that a deal to sign Luis Suarez is dead, which now means he will turn his attentions elsewhere as he looks to strengthen his side before the transfer window shuts in September.

It is strongly believed that the Real Madrid striker is now top of Wenger’s wishlist.
