Not all the news is about top clubs launching monopoly-money bids for pampered superstars of the footballing world. Ridiculous sums of money being quoted, and wage demands by agents that make you need to sit down to contemplate the vastness of it all.
Sometimes, just sometimes, a story comes through about a talented kid with a massive future ahead of him, that, in the right hands, could go on to be a significant player on the world stage.
Introducing Mile Svilar from Belgium. A 15-year-old goalkeeper on the books at Anderlecht. Chelsea have already offered him a trial. Manchester United are interested. But it is the men from North London that seem the keenest, and are pushing hard for a deal that will bring the teenager to the Emirates.
Arsenal are planning to invite the youngster to look around their state-of-the-art training complex, ahead of a move to the Arsenal Under-18 setup in the New Year.
Belgium coaches are reporting that they haven’t seen such goalkeeping talent since Thibaut Courtois….and they must know a thing or two. Courtois is now a 22-year-old World Cup veteran, plying his trade at Stamford Bridge. Not bad for a kid eh!
