Arsenal transfer blow

Arsenal’s top transfer target Julian Draxler, has given the Gunners a blow to their summer plans as he says he can’t rule out joining the German champions- similar to Manuel Neuer’s move in 2011.

Draxler was part of Schalke’s youth academy when Neuer was making himself known and was regularly starting in the first team. He was continously forced into rejecting bids from Bayern.

Finally, after five years as a Schalke player, Neuer left supporters of both sides unhappy as he conpleted his ÂŁ18.3million move to Bayern.

Draxler told sources that he would be foolish to dismiss this happening to himself, not ruling out the move.

“Look what happened with Manuel Neuer,” he told to German newspaper WAZ.

“He was 100 percent convinced that he would never join FC Bayern but. after having played as a pro for five years, time made him change his opinion.

“I also can’t say what I will think in five, six or even ten years.”

“And when you rule something out entirely and you end up playing where most people don’t want you to be, the outcry is huge.”

Draxler is under contract at Schalke until 2018, a contract in which he signed last year. Within contract it is stated that he has a ÂŁ37million release clause, in which Arsenal are believed to be keen on paying.

But, he has admitted that he is happy to remain in Gelsenkirchen, but is assessing his options.

“I prolonged my contract because I feel fine here and the long-term deal shows the appreciation and popularity I enjoy at Schalke,” he said.

“It’s no secret that I have a release clause [in my contract] and therefore have the opportunity to consider what is best for my development every year.

“Of course, the clause leaves a lot of room for speculation, but it is also good for both sides.

“It’s good for Schalke because the club does not have to let go of me on the cheap and, in their worst-case scenario, they would still get a lot of money for me.

“And for me it’s good because I can make my own decision if a club decides to pay 45 million euros for me and I want a new challenge.”

These comments come after Bayern’s general manager Matthias Sammer refused to rule out the Champions League holder’s interest in the Schalke midfielder.
