Arsenal trio Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla and Per Mertesacker have all expressed their delight at the club signing German international Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for a record transfer fee of £42million.
After a quiet summer, fans and players alike were left worrying about the side’s lack of transfer activity, but late on deadline day, The Gunners announced the surprise signing of Ozil and three of their star-names have revealed that they are delighted about the signing.
Theo Walcott said: “It is very exciting,” Walcott told Sky Sports News. “I played against him for the Under 21s when we lost 4-0 and he showed his qualities then and he has showed them throughout many years now for his club and country.
“He’s been a great addition and I am personally looking forward to playing with him. I am really excited to play with him.”
Ozil’s counterpart, Mertesacker, is also delighted with the signing: “I know him quite well. We spent two years together at Werder Bremen so I think that Arsene Wenger will get the best out of him.
“I think he will fit in. He suits us and we’re really looking forward to playing with him and to be his team-mate.”
Arsenal’s Cazorla, is also delighted with the Real Madrid star joining the club: “I am very happy that Ozil is here,” Cazorla was quoted as telling Spanish newspaper Marca.
“He is a spectacular player and we are very lucky that we are going to learn alongside him.
“I don’t understand that (why Real Madrid sold him), (because) he is a unique player.
“You will have to ask the club for reasons why they sold them, but at the same time he didn’t think he was getting the opportunities he deserved and luckily he has come to us.
“He is an important player and he is going to be very good for the team and the way we play. I hope he can help us fight against the big teams in the Premier League.”
