Arsenal were set to sign Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus this Summer before he injured his ankle prior to the World Cup.

The German international has been linked with a move away from Dortmund, with Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Manchester United all linked, but according to a Spanish journalist, it was Arsenal who were in pole position to land the midfielder star.

The 25-year-old recently rejected a new contract from the German club, which has worried Jurgen Klopp as next Summer is when Reus’ release clause of ÂŁ27million gets activated, and they were hoping they could get him to sign a new deal without the release clause.

The Spanish reporter stated that The Gunners were close to signing Reus before the World Cup in a deal worth ÂŁ27.6m, but due to his serious injury, which will see him ruled out until at least September, the move was abandoned.

It’s believed that Arsene Wenger will go in for the midfielder next Summer once his release clause is activated.
