Striker has £34m buyout clause

Arsenal are willing to pay Alexandre Lacazette’s full £34million buyout clause in order to land the French striker.

No bid has yet been sent from the Gunners to the French side, but the striker has already rejected the chance to join West Ham this summer.

West Ham returned to Lyon again this week having failed with a series of bids to persuade Lacazette to join them earlier this summer. But having missed out on their second choice, Michy Batshuayi, who has joined Chelsea for £33 million, and with Crystal Palace hoping to seal a move for their third choice, Christian Benteke, for £31.5 million, West Ham made one final effort for Lacazette.

Again, however, it was rejected with Lyon confident they will keep Lacazette. Nevertheless, other clubs remain interested in the forward who, in an interview with The Daily Telegraph earlier this year, declared he was keen finally to leave Lyon, his hometown club, and would like to play in the Premier League.

Arsenal have already tried to sign Leicester’s Jamie Vardy this summer by activating his £21million release clause, but the forward instead decided to sign a new contract at the Premier League champions and remain at the King Power Stadium.
