Arsenal’s Samper bid rejected

Arsenal have had a bid for Barcelona youngster Sergi Samper rejected. The 19-year old, who currently plays for Barca B, has attracted interest from a whole host of top European clubs.

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Arsene Wenger managed to make a last-ditch bid of around ÂŁ10m for Samper on Transfer Deadline Day and, despite the offer meeting the star’s reported release-clause, Barca refused to let another player leave and rejected the bid.

The news of Barcelona’s decision to keep the young man at the Nou Camp will be a huge blow for Gunners chief Wenger, who also tried to sign the starlet three years ago. Man City had also been linked with a move for Samper, but the current Prem champions have yet to make a bid or approach of any kind.

Samper currently has two years left on his contract and he isn’t looking to move anywhere, as he is keen to break into the Barcelona first-team this season and he could very well do so in the place of Xavi. We’ll have to see if he does feature for the La Liga giants as the season goes on.
