Southampton midfielder strongly linked with Emirates switch

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed his admiration for Southampton star Victor Wanyama, ahead of a proposed move in the January transfer window.

The Kenyan international has been strongly linked with a move away from St Marys Stadium, with Tottenham Hotspur keen over the summer, and their North-London rivals Arsenal keen now.

The Gunners are expected to be in the market for a new midfielder in January with injuries to Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin leaving them light in that area.

Wenger will have to use Mathieu Flamini or Mikel Arteta as the holding-mid, while Aaron Ramsey fulfills Cazorla‘s role of the box-to-box midfielder.

Wenger Rates Wanyama

However, speaking in a press conference, Wenger revealed his admiration for Wanyama, but also hinted that a move wouldn’t be launched in January.

“I rate the player, but we are not on the case,” he said.

“We will see what is there. We have a whole December to go first”
