Arsene Wenger admits Arsenal need signings

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has once again admitted that his side are in desperate need for new signings this summer after news came out that yet another first-team player will miss the start of the season.

Thomas Vermaelen, Nacho Monreal and now Mikel Arteta are all facing lengthy spell on the sidelines and that leaves Arsenal down to the bare bones when it comes to first-team players after they recently sold a hand-ful of recognised players.

So far, Wenger has only managed to bring in French striker Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer from Auxerre, but his major targets have all fallen through with the main three all choosing different clubs.

Gonzalo Higuain joined Napoli, Stevan Jovetic joined Manchester City and Luiz Gustavo recently signed for Wolfsburg.

In his press-conference before the Premier League season opener, Wenger admitted that his squad is lacking players at the moment and he has ensured fans that he wants quality rather than quantity.

“I don’t disagree that we are a bit light at the moment,” said Wenger. “We are looking to strengthen our squad.

“We’re looking more for quality than for numbers. We would like two or three players, if possible more.

“It’s not a question of spending money, it’s a question of buying the right players.”
