Arsenal will be active in January

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed he will be active in the January transfer window after admitting he needs to strengthen in certain areas.

The Gunners are in the middle of a four-way title-race, alongside Leicester City, Manchester City and Manchester United, but with Louis van Gaal‘s men fading away, there is a real chance for Arsenal to win the Premier League for the first time in over 10-years.

However, injuries to key first-team players are mounting up and leaving Arsenal fairly short in certain areas, in particular in the midfield.

Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin are both out until around March time, leaving Wenger with just Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini as options.

As well as that, Arsenal are short up front with Danny Welbeck suffering a setback in his recovery, meaning he won’t be back until February.

Wenger to take Action

When asked about his squad and also his plans for January, Wenger admitted he needed to take action.

Speaking to BeIN Sport the Frenchman said: “Yes, we are short and the number of games we have to play in January are very important.

“God knows how we will come out of the Christmas period, with a lot of demand on the physical front so we need to do something.

“I would love to give you names, downstairs on the bar with a coffee but not in front of your camera.”
