Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is confident right-back Bacary Sagna will remain at the club past this season, despite his contract expiring in the Summer.

The French defender has snubbed two extensions from Arsenal Football Club so far, with the latest being a £75k-a-week two-year deal, but the 31-year-old is holding out for a three-year deal worth around £120k-a-week.

Sagna’s uncertain future has caught the eye of many potential suitors with both Inter Milan and Galatasaray keen from abroad, but the Milan president Erick Thohir revealed that the player wants to remain in England as he is happy and settled there.

Those comments were then followed by reports claiming that Manchester City were ready to offer the Frenchman a three-year deal, but Wenger has spoken out about the saga and believes if City were to do that, it would be illegal.

Wenger then revealed that the club have offered Sagna yet another deal.

‘He has an offer, he has not come back to us yet. That [City offer] cannot be right because it’s illegal,’ the Frenchman said.

‘I’m confident he will stay but we will accept his decision. No matter what his decision will be, we will accept it and go on with it.’
