Arsenal boss says rules are rules regarding player injuries

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has defended Chelsea physio Eva Caneiro following her actions on Saturday which lead to Jose Mourinho questioning her knowledge of the game.

Mourinho and Caneiro have had a major fall-out over the past week due to the comments made after the Swansea City draw by The Blues boss, but it was made worse when the club physio commented on it on Facebook.

Caneiro thanked the fans for their support which angered Mourinho even further, so much so that she has now been banned from match-days and will only be the club doctor during training.

Mourinho is set to face the media later today ahead of the weekend clash with Manchester City on Sunday and he’s expected to give the latest surrounding the controversial saga.

As for other managers, Wenger was asked in his press conference about the situation going on at Stamford Bridge, and although he admitted he has no interest in their club matters, he did defend Caneiro’s actions.

Wenger Comments on Saga

“It’s a problem in the club,” he said. “It’s difficult enough and if you’re not united it is more difficult. Trust and unity inside a club make a strength.

“That story at Chelsea – I have not followed that. I do not have great interest in what’s going on there.

“But secondly, the rules are clear. When the referee gives an indication for the medics to come on they can come on.

“After that, in this situation, I don’t know. But the rules are quite clear. The referee makes the decision.”
