Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is desperate for his side to keep up their current form and is adamant that they cannot take their foot of the pedal at all this season.

After a surprise opening day defeat to Aston Villa at home, a lot of people raised their eyebrows about Wenger and his side, but since then, they have gone on to win three out of three in the Premier League and until last night, they were sitting top of the table.

A Liverpool draw away at Swansea City on Monday evening was enough to take Brendan Rodgers’ men back to the top of the table, but just one point behind them, is Wenger’s Arsenal and he is desperate for his team to keep pushing to be top, especially after their nightmare start.

“Who would expect three games [after Aston Villa] to be where we are?” the boss said. “It’s very important at the start of the season, maybe the position is not so important but not to be too many points behind anybody else early [on], that is the most important thing.

“Once we had lost against Aston Villa at home, that is the fear you can have, because behind that we played two derbies – Fulham and Tottenham – and to have to go to Sunderland is never an easy place for anybody.

“In between we had the Champions League games so to have won all these games means something to me. Of course it is good for the confidence of the group.”
