Arsene Wenger praises goal-line technology

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed goal-line technology and the Frenchman believes it will be a huge success in English football.

After years of rejecting it and putting it off, the FA and UEFA have finally made the decision to bring goal-line technology into football and it is expected to be used in this year’s Premier League campaign after being trialed out at the Emirates Cup earlier on in the summer.

The technology works by little cameras being inserted into the goal posts and then if the ball does in fact cross the ball, a little beep will be sent to the referee’s watch which will then let him know that the ball has crossed the line.

Wenger, who has been talking to the club’s official website, has admitted that he is a huge fan of the technology and he hopes it will be a huge hit this season.

“The only bumps on the road could be if something very dramatic happens between the moment the ball goes over the line and the response of the [referee’s] watch,” the manager told Arsenal Player.

“That’s a second and in a second a lot can happen in football. But there are about three incidents per year where the goal-line is a problem so let’s hope it goes well. It’s important if we want to go further that this experience goes well.”
