Mesut Ozil and Nacho Monreal set for new contract offers

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants to tie up the long-term futures of Mesut Ozil and Nacho Monreal amid speculation they could be leaving the club.

Both players have been linked with moves away in recent weeks, with reports suggesting Ozil could be in line for a shock move to Super Lig outfit Fenerbahce.

Interest in Ozil

The German World Cup winner has not won over many fans since his move to the Premier League, with many suggesting he’s flopped in England due to his lazy persona and his poor form in the big matches.

However, that hasn’t stopped Fenerbahce from being interested and Ozil’s agent has admitted it’s a deal that could happen.

Erkut Sogut has admitted that the Turkish club are a serious option, but his client’s wish is to remain in North London.

He said: “Fenerbahce wants to sign Mesut Ozil, but the main thing is he wants to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

“Arsenal will make a decision at the end of the season. Nevertheless, it is very difficult to predict in advance that decision.

“If Arsenal agrees to the transfer, Fenerbahce will be a serious option for us.”

According to reports today, Arsene Wenger is desperate to keep Ozil at the club and wants to offer him a new contract, with his current one expiring in 2018.

Monreal Future

As well as Ozil’s future, Wenger wants to secure the long-term future of left-back Monreal.

The Spaniard has pushed his way into the first-team at the Emirates Stadium, replacing Kieran Gibbs last season, and his consistent performances caught the eyes of La Liga side Athletic Bilbao.

However, Arsenal are not prepared to sell him and are set to offer him a new and improved three-year deal.
