Arsene Wenger: ‘We have nothing to fear’

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his side has nothing to fear when it comes to this year’s Champions League after they have already proven themselves against some of European’s top clubs.

The Gunners were drawn into ‘The Group of Death’ along with Napoli, Borussia Dortmund and Marseille, however, they currently sit top of the group after picking up three wins from four.

Wenger and his men have seen off Marseille away, Napoli at home and Dortmund away, which has given them a strong chance of qualifying to the knock-out stages.

After seeing his side battle to a 1-0 victory last night, Wenger hailed his side and admitted that the players have nothing to fear now.

Wenger said: ‘This is a huge result. I just hope it strengthens the belief of the team. We have another massive game on Sunday (at Manchester United) and we want that kind of performance again. Not many teams in the Champions League could achieve this. Overall I would say the team has shown huge solidarity to get through difficult moments in the game.

‘We won against a very good team and I respect them. There was maybe more at stake here than when we won in Munich (last season) because people felt they took the game easy because they had beaten us 3-1 at home.

‘Against Dortmund both teams had to win – a draw was not good enough. We were united and focused, especially defensively. Dortmund put us under huge pressure and we kept a lot of possession and it was a bit sterile in the first half.

‘It was a question of being focused, intelligent, not to make the first mistake but wait for the moment.

‘We had a difficult period in the second half after the first goal and after that we could have scored again.’
