Emerson Palmieri has agreed to a four-year contract with Chelsea from AS Roma. The deal will see him earn around £42,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge, with Kenedy moving to Newcastle on loan.
The 23-year-old Palmieri, who plays left-back for AS Roma, has appeared for 34 matches for the Italian club since 2015.
Emerson is back to full fitness from a serious ligament injury that he sustained during Roma’s match against Genoa in May last year.
Antonio Conte had been looking for options to beef up the defence, and give competition to Marcus Alonso. The Chelsea manager is not entirely convinced with Kenedy, having handed him only five games till now, all being domestic club competitions.
However, the exact amount is yet to be finalised, with Chelsea looking at options to have a double deal to get Edin Dzeko in the mix as well.
Born in Sao Paulo, Palmieri has also represented Brazil at the U-17 level.
