The defender has been tipped to leave Italy
According to reports, former Arsenal and Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole rejected a Deadline Day move to Newcastle United.
Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed that the ex-England international turned down a return to the Premier League, despite being heavily linked with a home country comeback.
Cole is currently playing for AS Roma, after he signed for the Italian giants over a year ago when his contract at Stamford Bridge reached expiration.
However, the 34-year old made only 11 Serie A appearances during the last campaign; and his involvement this season hasn’t increased.
He is out of favour
Cole has found himself constantly falling down the pecking order at Roma, especially since Paris Saint-Germain left-back Lucas Digne joined on a season-long loan.
Rudi Garcia has even left him out of Roma’s 21-man Champions League squad.
Even though he apparently rejected a move to the Toon yesterday, the Italian media still expect Cole to leave the Stadio Olimpico in the January transfer window.
