Chelsea defender Ashley Cole wants to sign a new contract at the club in order to secure his long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
The 32-year-old, who joined the club back in 2006 after leaving Arsenal, has enjoyed a very successful career with Chelsea, winning eight major trophies and becoming one of the best left-backs in the world.
However, Chelsea have recently brought in a new policy at the club that players over 30 will only be offered 12-months at a time, and despite signing a 12-month deal in January, Cole is keen to sign yet another extension so that his long-term future is secure.
He said: “I signed an extension at the start of the year and so have this year left and it will be up at the end of the season. I hope to stay for longer. I have had a great time here, a great career here and, of course, I’d love to stay if they still want me.
“There is going to be a time when they will have to replace me. I have Ryan [Bertrand] in my place and one day I’m going to want to watch him play, so the time will come when I do finish my career.”
