Ashley Cole has lifted the lid on the reason he feels that Andre Villas-Boas didn’t succeed at Chelsea and that his tenure was always going to be short lived because of this.
The former England and Chelsea man has said that Villas-Boas didn’t have the backing of the first-team which meant that certain players who did not and would not work hard for him.
Ashley Cole has been speaking with Sky Sport Italia and said;
“There were some players who didn’t want to work hard for Villas-Boas,”. But as soon as [Roberto] Di Matteo arrived, that all changed.”
The Portuguese coach replaced Carlo Ancelotti in 2011 but was sacked only half way through his first season. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich received a lot of criticism after the departure of Villas-Boas due to the way he dealt with the sacking.
