Asmir Begovic feels bad for Southampton goalkeeper

Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has admitted that it was a cool feeling scoring a goal yesterday during his side’s 1-1 draw with Southampton, but he also admits to feeling sorry for his opposite number as it was just one of those bizarre moments in football.

The game was just 14-seconds long when the Bosnian hoofed a ball up-field, and after the Saints centre-backs let the ball bounce through to the goalkeeper, unfortunately for them, it then bounced over the head of Boruc and into the back of the net.

Despite scoring the goal, Begovic admitted that he felt bad and that is why he didn’t celebrate.

“It’s a cool feeling but it was a fortunate incident. I feel a bit bad for Boruc,” Begovic told BBC Sport.

“It is a long ball that got caught in the wind and it took a wicked bounce. It’s not nice to be on the receiving end of those things as a goalkeeper.

“It does not make a goalkeeper look good and after it I did not want to celebrate out of respect for him.”
