Tottenham Hotspur progressed through to the next round of the Capital One Cup tonight after an impressive 4-0 away win at Aston Villa.

Here you can read some of the reaction from the game:

Tottenham manager Andre Viillas-Boas:

“It was an important win. We used three players which played at Cardiff, which was a risk, but it was a great response from the team. We used all of our strength in depth. It was another super performance from Jermain Defoe, he showed great desire. His performances have been excellent.”

“We’ve shown a great team spirit this year. The players are all buzzing for opportunities like this so most of them really performed tonight.

“We have great strength in depth so it allows us to throw such a strong team on the pitch after playing just two days ago.

“The best thing about this evening is that the players who came in responded well and respected the competition.

“I didn’t complain about the fixture pile up, I just said this game should have been played tomorrow.

“It was difficult for us but the squad really performed today. Hopefully if we can get the calendar right, we’ll be given the possibility to play on a Wednesday. If that happens we can be in contention.”

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert:

“(On Nicklas Helenius getting his shorts pulled down): That was a big moment. It thought it was a pen. I don’t think anybody could believe it. It was a strange decision.

“I didn’t think there were four goals in that. We had a lot of players out injured and they were too much for us. But I couldn’t fault the lads for effort.

“We gave it a go in the second half and their second goal was a really poor goal from our point of view.

“There are a couple of plus points from individual performances. Nathan Baker is coming back after injury. Marc Albrighton was excellent.”
