The midfielder has signed a 5 years contract with the club
Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of Villarreal midfielder Rodri on a five year deal, with his fee being in the region of €20 million reported by Goal . The transfer has been on cards for many months but he will now officially join the club on 1st July.
Despite winning the Europa League, Diego Simeone wants to strengthen to his squad for the next season in order to challenge for the title. Bolstering the midfield was one of his priority and has been keeping tabs on the 21 year old for some time.
The Spaniard came through the ranks of Atletico but was released in 2013 due to lack of Physical strength. He joined Villarreal and made his senior debut for them in 2015 and became a member of the first team in the following campaign, making 31 appearances for them.
The Spain International, who plays as a holding midfielder, has been a regular for the La Liga giants in the 2017-2018 season , scoring 1 goal and assisting 4 in 47 appearances for the club in all competitions and helping his team to finish 5th in the league.
He’s a very talented midfielder, with excellent positioning and aerial play. His forté is recovering the ball and in the 2017/18 season he did so 320 times for his team, making him the player with the most recoveries in LaLiga.
Rodri is also very good with the ball on his feet and was the third player with the highest pass success rate (2,470).
The player has won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship with Spain in 2015 and has been a regular for the Under-21 team. He made his senior debut for Spain against Germany in March.
