Chelsea and Manchester United were interested in signing the centre-back during the summer transfer window but he wanted to stay with the La Liga champions despite seeing numerous team-mates leave.
He admitted: “I think that it’s normal footballers to leave the club when they have found success.
“Staying at Atleti was the best for me and my family. I’m very happy to be at Atleti. I love Madrid and this is a great club.”
Diego Costa and Filipe Luis left the club for Chelsea but the Brazilian defender believes the club has a stronger squad this season.
“The club has made several great signings. We’re reinforced every aspect. I’m happy that Tiago returned.
“I think the key to this season will be how fast we adapt and show what we can do.
“Siqueira is a player who is on the same level as Filipe. I’ll be anything that the new players will bring the fans a lot of joy.
“In defence, we have the same dynamics as before and as the games go on, we’ll feel better.”
