According to reports from the Mirror, Atletico Madrid are interested in signing PSG star Edinson Cavani if they are able to sell Diego Costa to a Chinese club in January. Cavani has been one of the most prolific strikers in the world ever since he joined Napoli from Palermo in 2010. He has played 261 matches for PSG so far, scoring 182 goals. This season, Cavani has been in brilliant form for the Parisians so far. In 15 matches across all competitions, the Uruguayan striker has scored 11 goals and 4 assists.
Despite being in terrific form for the club, Cavani’s PSG has been questionable lately. The 31-year old’s current contract at PSG expires in 2020.
Cavani will certainly cost Atletico Madrid a chunk of money. Hence, they are reportedly planning to sell Diego Costa to a Chinese club, hoping to raise up to £63 million. Atletico will try to sign Cavani with the money they get from selling Costa.
Diego Costa’s form for Atletico Madrid has been poor ever since he rejoined the club from Chelsea in January. Like Cavani, Costa has also made 15 appearances across all competitions but he has scored only 4 goals.
Given the Spaniard’s poor form, it may be difficult for Atletico Madrid to raise good money in selling him to a Chinese club. Nevertheless, Cavani’s addition will be an asset to Atletico Madrid’s squad.
