According to reports from Marca, Atletico Madrid are on the brink of beating Manchester United and Manchester City to the signing of Joao Felix. Felix has become a highly sought-after player thanks to his performances for Benfica in the 2018/19 season. The teenager netted 20 goals and provided 11 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions. His performances found Felix a place in the Portugal national team and he was a part of the side that recently won the UEFA Nations League.
Felix’s performances attracted interest from Manchester United and Manchester City. However, now Atletico Madrid have joined the race to sign Felix and are very close to signing him. Atletico Madrid have lost some of their key players at the end of the 2018/19 season which include Antoine Griezmann, Lucas Hernandez, Diego Godin and Juanfran. Diego Simeone is eager to have a strong squad for the 2019/20 season and the signing of Felix would be a major asset to the club.
Felix’s release clause is reported to be around £106 million and Atletico are willing to pay that amount after the transfer of Antoine Griezmann who is expected to join Barcelona.
