Atletico Madrid are eyeing Arsenal forward, Alexandre Lacazette as a replacement for Antoine Griezmann.
The Frenchman is set to leave the Wanda Metropolitano this summer and his compatriot is expected to take up his place in Diego Simeone’s squad. Atletico have previously expressed a strong desire to sign Lacazette but were unable to do so at the time, letting the Gunners snap him up for around £45m.
The La Liga outfit has just completed the signing of Joao Felix from Benfica for a whopping £126m, which they hope to raise from Griezmann’s sale. Now, they have set their sights on the 28-year-old Arsenal striker.
The scariest bit for the North London fans will be the report that came out yesterday, claiming Lacazette had called for a meeting with the Arsenal chiefs to discuss the offer he had received from Spain.
Previously, the forward was heavily linked with Barcelona but that rumour got slashed when Griezmann switch to the Camp Nou got almost confirmed. Now, it would not be outrageous to see Atletico steal him away from the Emirates for a decent sum.
Unai Emery is desperate to raise funds and after almost a month of failed transfer moves, the Spaniard might cave into selling whoever he can. Both Celtic and Saint Etienne have rejected Arsenal’s attempts at signing Kieran Tierney and William Saliba.
Crystal Palace are also holding out for an £80m transfer fee for Wilfried Zaha. Lacazette’s sale could facilitate that but it should only be considered after a serious bit of thought
