The QPR forward is wanted by the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea
Les Ferdinand, Director of football at Loftus Road, says goal scorers like Austin don’t come cheap.
Chris Ramsey’s side were relegated from the Premier League last weekend – despite Austin’s 17 goals – and Ferdinand has admitted there will be a lot of clubs vying for his signature.
Ferdinand started his playing career at QPR and knows that when a player from a smaller club stands out like Austin, people will look to prize them away.
Newcastle interest
Some reports have suggested owner Mike Ashley was ready to offer £10million for the 25-year-old but Ferdinand has warned they will only accept double that fee.
“It’s up to us to try and keep the wolves from the door but you’re never going to stop them from knocking and coming in” said Ferdinand.
The former Burnley forward has enjoyed a “fantastic” debut season in the Premier League, according to Ferdinand and he knows people want to keep him in England’s top flight.
Should QPR’s asking price be met, the club would make a £16million profit after they signed Austin from Sean Dyche’s side for just under £4million.
