Arsenal and Chelsea suffer defeats

It was once again a night to forget for English clubs in the Champions League as both Arsenal and Chelsea fell to defeats in game-week two of the competition.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City all lost in the opening game-week, while Chelsea thumped Maccabi Tel Aviv, but they weren’t so convincing this time around.

The Gunners went into their match with Olympiakos knowing it was a must-win game after losing to Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia, but after a calamitous night for David Ospina, Arsene Wenger‘s men tasted defeat yet again.

Despite Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez once again getting on the score-sheet, Arsenal lost 3-2 to the Greek side at the Emirates Stadium, leaving them rock bottom of their group on no points.

Up next for Wenger‘s men is a double-header against Bayern Munich, meaning they could face early elimination from the competition.

Chelsea Woes Continue

As for Chelsea, they traveled to Portugal to take on Jose Mourinho‘s former-club FC Porto, in what is deemed as their trickiest tie of the group stage.

After going 1-0 down, a Willian free-kick leveled it up for the Premier League champions, but a second-half header for the hosts gave them the 2-1 lead and eventually all three points.

The defeat for Chelsea leaves them third in the group, but with the games coming up, they should still qualify with ease.

English eyes turn to Manchester this evening as City take on Borussia Monchengladbach, while United host Wolfsburg.
