Bafetimbi Gomis to leave Lyon

Lyon striker Bafteimbi Gomis has announced that he is likely to leave the Ligue 1 side at the end of the season.

Gomis has been strongly linked with a move to Newcastle over the summer but a deal was never made. But now the chance for the Tyne-side club to sign the 28 year-old has opened up once more as Gomis told RMC:  “I think at the end of the season, it’s time for me to go elsewhere.”

Lyon may be keen to stop Gomis from leaving on a free transfer when his contract runs out in the summer, so a January transfer is also a possibility.

With 13 league starts and 7 goals, it is no surprise there is interest from fellow Ligue 1 side, Marseille. However Newcatsle currently are leading the race to sign the Frenchman so it is likely that either in January or the summer, the Premier League will welcome the coveted Ligue 1 star.
