Ex-Red claims Italian cannot replace Luis Suarez

Former-Liverpool defender, Mark Lawrenson, has slaughtered Mario Balotelli, calling him a ‘big lump’.

The football pundit believes the Italian isn’t capable of replacing Luis Suarez, who left the club to join FC Barcelona in the Summer, and despite Brendan Rodgers offering his support to Balotelli, Lawrenson doesn’t believe he’s up for the challenge.

The former-Manchester City striker has only netted once so far for Liverpool, and that was in the Champions League, and Lawrenson has been very critical of the 23-year-old since his arrival.

‘I already believe Rodgers is going to have to make a move for a fast, pacey striker during the January transfer window, especially if [Daniel] Sturridge is going to miss chunks of the season through injury,’ the Match of the Day pundit said.

‘Mario Balotelli had a decent game but he is a big lump up front. He offers a different kind of threat.

‘He [Balotelli] doesn’t have pace and he’s never going to score 20 goals a season.’

There are reports suggesting that Rodgers will bid for Gonzalo Higuain in January, but the Argentine striker has admitted that he’s happy to stay in Italy.
