Rodgers reveals he couldn’t connect with Mario
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that Mario Balotelli was ‘probably spot on’ when claiming that the former Liverpool manager was the worst he’s ever worked for.
Liverpool signed Balotelli late in the 2014 transfer window for £16million. He had a reputation and clear talent, but it was still considered a gamble by the club.
The move proved to be a disaster, and Balotelli is now playing in Ligue 1 with French side Nice, where he is enjoying more success.
In a recent interview, Balotelli named ex-Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini as his favourite all-time boss, but branded Rodgers a ‘disaster’.
Rodgers’ response has been very modest, admitting that the pair didn’t connect while at Anfield together,
“He was probably absolutely spot on,” said the Celtic boss,
“I just couldn’t really connect with Mario.
“He was one that came in very late in the window. It was a gamble taken from a club perspective.
“It was one where, he’s a big talent, he’ll come in and develop, he’s got all the tools.
“On the field, it was something that never worked out. That season was difficult for us.
“But now I hope he’s got a club, that might be a final chance over in France. But hopefully it can work out for him.”
