Real Sociedad wanted the forward on loan

Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford has revealed that he turned down the advances from David Moyes this summer, having chosen to join Crystal Palace instead.

The former Manchester United boss was keen to take the 21 year-old to La Liga for the season, however Bamford was keen to show his worth in the Premier League.

He then chose Crystal Palace as his destination, and cited the reason of wanting to impress Jose Mourinho in England’s highest division having scored bags of goals in the Championship over the last 18 months.

Bamford Reveals Interest

‘I was quite keen on the idea (joining Real Sociedad) when I first heard about it,’ he tells Sportsmail.

‘But I spoke to my dad and my agent and realised it was crucial to stay in the Premier League.

‘The thought of playing in Spain did whet my appetite – playing in a new country and everything that comes with it. But now I think about it, it’s good that I stayed here.

‘It’s the best league in the world and you need to establish yourself here before you go anywhere else.’

With Glenn Murray and Dwight Gayle linked with late moves away from Palace during the remaining weeks of the summer window, Bamford is set to get his chance in the Premier League this season, with hopes of returning to Chelsea and putting himself into contention for a starting role at Stamford Bridge.
