Latest reports state that Barcelona have officially approached Chelsea with a short-term loan offer for Andreas Christensen.
The 22-year-old was a key player for the Blues under former boss, Antonio Conte, making 40 total appearances last term. However, since Maurizio Sarri’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, Christensen has found himself stuck to the cold end of a bench most of the time. He has appeared in just one Premier League game this season and has been heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea.
According to Spanish outlet, Sport, Barcelona have expressed strong interests in the Dane. Their greatest concern is with Samuel Umtiti who is still nursing his knee injury. The centre-half could be stuck to the sidelines for a longer period of time should he undergo surgery in the coming weeks.
It is still unclear whether Chelsea will authorise the loan deal or not since he is considered next in line, behind David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger in the pecking order. Barcelona require a quick fix but might not be willing to pay the hefty fee required to finalise a permanent transfer.
Christensen has been vocal about his frustrations with the current scenario and could push for more playing time outside of the West London. However, it is unlikely that his situation will change drastically at the Nou Camp with players like Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet and Thomas Vermalean also in the side, other than Umtiti.
