Barcelona chief blocks Pedro move

The 27-year-old is an “important” player, according to Barcelona official Ariedo Braida

Braida, the club’s international sporting director, has ruled out any potential move to the Premier League.

Since the arrival of Luis Suarez for a reported £75m, the Spain international has struggled for first-team opportunities under Luis Enrique.

The Catalonian side were planning on selling the winger to raise some funds in time for the end of their transfer embargo in 2016, according to reports.

Pedro is a product of Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy and a host of English clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are all reportedly planning a move.

Staying in Spain

Their hopes of signing Pedro were dented when Braida insisted they are intent on keeping the player and he remains a key figure in their future plans.

He added: “He will not leave in the summer. He has a contract, and will remain at Camp Nou, even more so since we have a transfer ban.”

Barcelona travel to Atletico Madrid tomorrow and a win would secure the league title – the last time they lifted La Liga was two seasons ago.

Luis Enrique’s side could still complete the treble with a cup final against Athletic Bilbao before they take on Juventus in the Champions League final next month.
