According to reports, Barcelona are close to signing Ajax skipper Matthijs de Ligt. De Ligt has been linked to a move away from Ajax for a while now with even manager Erik ten Hag stating that he will move in the summer.
De Ligt joined Ajax’s youth team in 2008 and joined the senior team in 2016, aged just 17. So far, the teenager has made 116 appearances for Ajax, scoring 13 goals and providing 7 assists. De Ligt has been in exceptional form this season, scoring 7 goals and providing 4 assists n 54 matches across all competitions so far. De Ligt played a key role in Ajax’s run to the Champions League semi-finals where they lost to Tottenham Hotspur.
Several clubs have shown interest in De Ligt. These include, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal, Bayern Munich Juventus and Liverpool. Right now, it seems that the defender will join Barcelona. A strong centre-back who can read the game really well, Barcelona will benefit a lot by signing De Ligt.
